Not so little Hayden

Hayden was born at 41 weeks and weighed 9 lbs even. I was in labor for 24 hours and pushed for 4 hrs. (my water breaking was what started the labor, not contractions). I went to the hospital and they started me on the pitocin since I was not having any contractions. Everything was going fine for about the first 8 hours. All of a sudden about 5 people came rushing into my room, flipped me on my side and started me on oxygen. Apparently Hayden was having some serious decelerations. The staff continued to let me labor and after about 2 or 3 hours , they let me remove the oxygen. About an hour later, the same thing happened again. This time I was told that I was not allowed to come off the oxygen. About an hour later, the doctor came in my room and asked what my plans for an epidural was, I told him that I had not planned on getting one. About 2 hours later, she was back in my room, saying that the baby was not cooperating and that I would need an epidural to facilitate the baby's safe birth and to relax me so that he would relax also. Finally O got to the big 10cm, and they told me I could start pushing. I pushed for about 2 hours and was making ok progress. Then, he was crowning, but every time I stopped pushing, he slid right back in. They did tell me he had a full head of hair at this point. Next thing I know, they decided that they wanted to monitor my contractions internally and they also put a monitor on the top of his head. Still would not deliver. Then they decided that they were going to try to vacuum him out. They did say that they had to have a neonatologist in the room and there for his birth once they started to use the vacuum. They attempted to vacuum him with no success. They finally gave up due to the fact that the decelerations were increasing and lasting longer and I was too tired, He was delivered by emergency C-section. His head was so big that there was no way I could have delivered him any other way. He had an apgar score of 2 and was a full code when he was born. I did not get to see or touch him before he was rushed to the NICU. They got him back and I was taken to recovery. I was not told a thing, just that he was in the NICU and that they would let me go see him before they took me back to my room. He was born with Goldenhar Syndrome (rare disorder that causes facial deformities) and a massive infection He stayed in the NICU for 7 days which were thankfully very uneventful. Due ti the Goldenhar Syndrome, he did have to have an echo done (which showed only a PDA that they were confident would close on its own) and a renal u/s which showed mild hydronephrosis (which has also resolved with a little help from the urologist) He was on long term prophylactic antibiotics until the hydronephrosis was determined to be completely resolved, but has been off of them for several months now. He is a happy healthy 11 month old with weirdly shaped ears and skin tags on his ears (from the Goldenhar;s) but is doing well. There is a possibility that he will have hearing issues in the future due to the way his ears are shaped but we are not seeing any signs/symptoms of any hearing difficulties yet! Thanks for reading!
