Tomorrow is World Prematurity Day, and it’s time to let our elected officials know how important it is for them to support the PREEMIE Reauthorization Act. Since the original passage of the Preemie Act in 2006 we’ve seen a real decrease in Premature Birth. This Act *IS* making a difference in our fight against premature birth – so please contact your Senators and Representatives and ask them to support the PREEMIE Reauthorization Act... we need to keep this momentum going!

Check out the Community blog for more information on how to approach your members of Congress and advocate for your child.

mom to angels ethan and casey (3-7-07); daughters Kaelin Reese born happy and healthy on 3-10-09; and Kelsey Grace on 9/17/11

Anyone experience toddler tantrums when they brought a new sibling home? Kaelin is wonderful with Kelsey -- but come nighttime -- she is very disruptive. She finds every reason in the book to stall for sleeping, and she's up half a dozen times a night -- sometimes fully awake and other times, not. we think it's an attention thing -- because it all started when the baby came home in september. any advice?

Oh no.....I can only imagine. I don't have my second one here, but my sister had a similar situation with her boys. They just had to find a sitter sometimes for their younger son and make sure they did things like the "old days" with just their older son. Eventually it did get better!

Good luck with finding the right combination!

Mom to Tucker (27 weeker, 05/26/06)

Oh Erin, good luck! I guess that Kaelin is about 2 1/2? That is so hard I remember that age, when Tucker didn't have a railing on his bed anymore, and it was so hard to get him to listen. Then the new baby came home and changed her routine.

I agree with Tracy, maybe give Kaelin time to adjust, and also get a sitter some nights to really give her your 100% attention, as I think you're right about her doing all of this for attention.

If it makes you feel better, Tucker is 5, and reacted so oddly to the birth of his new cousin last year. Well, it was "normal" but we weren't used to it. He could be so loving to her, but then when he realized that no one was looking at him, he'd be so loud, and run around like crazy. It was like he was using every trick to get us to look at him instead of the baby! But at 5, he just looked ridiculous!

I really hope that Kaelin gets back to her bedtime routine soon, and when she does, you'll have to share what worked with all of us.

    Hi girls,
I have answers to our sleeping issues with Kaelin: DADDY. that's right -- the daddy factor.

He left for his work trip last week (will be gone until April 1) and the first night he was gone -- no problems ... and none since, other than her having crazy dreams in the middle of the night where she whines and moans.

He gave in to all of her crazy stuff -- staying in her room until she fell asleep, getting her this or that, etc. Drove me nuts! He freely admitted he was a problem ... but just couldn't help himself. With me -- she knows she can't get away with that crap ... so she doesn't even try.

    Oh Erin,

Of course Daddy was the problem! Haha, why didn't I think of that?

I have been home with Tucker for 4 days, and he has been so well-behaved. Then DH stayed home with him yesterday, and wouldn't you know it, Tucker pulled every trick in the book?

I don't think Tucker is the problem, haha

I need one kiddo to stop talking and the other one to talk more:) So many things going on. Hoping to interview more hab people soon. I may have to call and change my hours so that I "fit" more potential schedules. Kind of nice to have people out of your home by dinner time. I'd invite them to stay for dinner, but my cooking isn't so great.

Lindsay - I have two constant talkers... I would give almost anything for some peace and quiet! But be aware it didn't start that way. Matt was a late talker and went through speech therapy for a while. Now I'm looking for someone to teach him to STOP TALKING! LOL
