I am a mom of a teen preemie (born 01-19-89). My son was born at 28 weeks, weighed 2 lb 10 oz, spent 101 days in the NICU in Tacoma, WA but I now live in Kingsport, TN. Any other Tennesseans out there?

I guess there aren't many of us on here. My son Nathan was born back in September. We live just outside of Nashville.

From Tennessee
I know I am a little late on posting to this message. Usually I have a baby nursing while I am on the site. We are from Union City, TN which is in the North West corner of Tennessee. I am the mom of 3 earthly children and 1 heavenly angel. Emily is 6 (born at 41 wks), Gannon is 2 (born at 38 wks), and Hayden is almost 6 months old (born at 33 wks). Andrew is my heavenly angel who is also the twin brother of Hayden. I would love to connect with families of preemies or families who have a lost a child. I get so lonely and really do not have anyone to share my experiences with--that is why I love coming to this site!

Im cheryl and this is my first grandbaby, a little boy born 27 weeks. We are visiting him as much as we can, driving 60miles roundtrip on our off days to bring the mom and dad in to see the baby. He is doing very well. Getting over his little "hurdles." Maybe in another month he can go home. He resides in the NICU at Vanderbilt's Children Hospital, and like the nurses tell us there, "he is the boss!" To All mothers with preemies I believe God gives special gifts to special people.

We were just at Vanderbilt today, my son had an appointment. One of his former nurses works at Vanderbilt now in the NICU. I am sure he is getting the best of care.

Hi - I am a new mom to a 4 month old preemie baby boy. He was born 8 weeks early and only weighed 2lbs 2 oz. We went to the doctor yesturday and he now weighs 11lbs. We were really lucky. I almost lost him. I had pre-eclampsia and I had virtually no amniotic fluid. My doctor told me that had I waited any longer, I would have lost my little miracle. I read all the messages and I realize how lucky his father and I are. All the babies born at the same weight as he were in the NICU for 60+ days. He was only there for 25 days. He came home weighing only 3lbs 10oz.

Sounds like Julian did very well. My son was born weighing almost what your son went home at and he still had to stay in the NICU 35 days. My son was also born 8 weeks early because of pre-e. At the time I knew that it was a serious condition, but no idea how really bad it can be. I hope he continues to do well. Welcome to SHARE.

TN as well
Hello all. I'm mom to preemie b/g twins born at 29 weeks. I can hardly believe they'll be 2 in about 2 weeks. They are doing amazingly well. We are in the Knoxville area. I'm working with the MOD on getting a NICU support group going. If anyone's local and interested, let me know.

On October 23, 2005 my son Anakin was born at 27 weeks. He is at Jackson General in the NICU. On Sunday he will be 2 weeks old. He is getting better all the time and I am glad to see that I am not alone. I'm the first in my family to have a preemie and feel so different because I didnt carry Anakin to term. Im glad that I found this place...reading other people's stories makes me feel better and more confident that Anakin will be alright.

Want to introduce myself and my son Matthew
My son Matthew was born at aprox. 26 weeks gestation. We had only known I was pregnant for three weeks. We had our first ultrasound 4 days prior to his arrival and they told me there I had little to no aminotic fluid. Then they sent me to a specilist who told me he would have clubbed feet, lung problems, and other mulitudes of problems. They ten tried to infuse my womb with saline and it did not take. When he was born, there were no problems except his kidneys did not fuction. We found out that he has bilateral PKD and would need dilalysis immediatly. They were not expecting him to live overnight. (which we didnt find out until weeks later that they didnt ecpect him to make it that long) He so far is doing great and is almost 8 weeks old. they talked the other day of him comming home before Christmas and starting our training for his dialysis. His website is http://matthewbohannon.8m.com and we keep updates at http://livejournal.com/users/matthewbohannon I'm in Knoxville! GO VOLS!

Anakin on 11/12
its amazing how far he came along in almost a week. things here have been wonderful. i found out today that the murmur is completely gone. that right there is a blessing in itself. other than that he is excellent. he will be 32 weeks tomorrow and they are getting ready to try him on a bottle soon. it feels wonderful to hold my son for an hour a day (30 mins in the morn and 30 at night) he is up to 3lb and 8 oz so he is getting up there. a couple of nurses in the NICU have started a scrapbook class for us new moms and that is wonderful. God has definately been on our side these past few weeks and hopefully he will come home at christmas...what a wonderful gift for a mommy and a daddy...their baby boy Thanks for the prayers and the well-wishes

My second year walking
My name is Nicole I had 28 week boy/girl twins, November 3, 2004. My son weighed 2lbs 5.7oz and my daughter weighed 2lbs 5.3oz. My daughter is completely healthy and developing at a normal rate foe her corrected age, but my son on the other hand has been admitted to the hospital 16 times since he left NICU he is in PICU right now on CPAP not doing so well. We live in Jonesborough,TN but we walked last year after starting our own family team and we plan to walk again this year as well. I think Walk America is a wonderful way to raise awareness about preemies and the struggles they face along with their families. I'm sure my story wasn't much help, but if you need to talk I'm here.

Nicole, I think it's mostly just us. Most of the others that have posted to this thread just have a few posts. I am about half the state west of you, close to Nashville. It does feel lonely. I know there are others out there. I am trying to spread the word about SHARE in our local NICU in hopes to meet more PoPs from the area.
