Hoosier born and raised!

We live in Fishers, IN (northeast of Indianapolis). I was born in Crown Pointe, IN and raised in Hobart, IN (for you Valpo and Schererville folks!). Our daughter, Katelyn, was a 32 weeker. Weighed 3 lbs. She is now 16 months old. Unfortunately, she was infected with CMV while in utero and that was the reason she was in the NICU so long (4 1/2 months). We were actually at the new Riley satellite in Clarian North Hospital (in Carmel). We have traveled to Riley's downtown initially after Katelyn was discharged to home to see an Infectious Disease Doc, a doc at the Craniofacial Clinic, and removal of Katie's G tube, but most of our lab draws and doc visits have been at Clarian North. Katelyn is doing well currently. She is still behind developmentally, but hopefully she will catch up. Glad to see so many active Hoosiers on here!
Love, Kelly

Michigan City

Hello everyone, we took our son to University of Chicago and if I would have known then what I know now I would have taken him to Riley's. My son was born at 27 weeks in 2001 and he passed away when he was 8 weeks old. I decided on UofC because it was closer and I usually heard good things. I'm still so angry with them to this day, I wouldn't even take my dog there if I could. But I loved the Ronald McDonald House they were great.

I am so sorry...

Welcome, Robin! I am so sorry that you lost your precious son at 8 weeks old. That must have been so incredibly hard. Although I was raised up in the same area that you are from, I have actually have never been to U of C. I must agree Riley's, for the most part, was great. We were very fortunate to live so close to such a fine NICU/ PICU/ Peds services. Glad you found your way to SHARE!! Love, Kelly
