Hi-
I grew up in College Park and have moved to Pa, just south of Philly. Where abouts are you?
We have an ex-26 weeker who is now 6 years old and just completed kindergarten.

We are in the Silver Spring/Aspen Hill area....my husband actually manages a bar in College Park, Town Hall...you've probably seen it if you haven't been there!! It's nice to hear about the preemies that are on their way through school! My son was a 25+ weeker born in August of last year, so he's now 10 months actual and 7 months adjusted. Was your son born here or in PA? Feel free to keep in touch, I love hearing about what I'm in for!!! Dawn

Happy 4th of July!
Hi-
My daughter was born in Pa as I my husband and I have been living here for 11 years. My daughter is 65 and my son is 3 and 1/2. I was on bedrest with my son at the end of my pregnancy- too much water. Anyway, Sarah finished her kindergarten year. I just couldn't believe where the years went. Tears filled my eyes during the graduation ceremony. I just kept thinking how lucky I am that she was come so far.
When she was a baby, we waited so long for her to grow into the 3-6 month clothes, then the next size. Now, it's 6 slim for the 6 year old.
How is your son? Talking and moving. I am sure that you are busy. Are you home? daycare?
Chat with you later- TINA

Re: Happy 4th of July!
I am at home with my son, we wouldn't have it any other way. We could certainly use the extra money that we would make with me working, but my husband and I both agreed that we'd be happier with me at home taking care of our little guy! He's doing very well, not getting around yet....but definitely doing the baby babble. He's just mastered the fine art of rolling over and yesterday grabbed his left foot for the first time (we've had a hard time getting him to realize he even has feet!).
I know what youmean about waiting to get into a 3-6 month clothes, but we're starting to pass into 6-9 months so all is well. He's a pretty big boy all things considered. He's 18 lbs. and 27 inches at 7months adjusted/10 months actual, so I think he's doing pretty well! I can't even imagine how proud you must have been watching your daughter finish kindergarten....I can't wait! (Of course, once I see it I'll wish I had the baby years back...)
Talk to you soon!
Dawn

Maryland Support
Hello,
My name is Michael and I am Ryleigh's dad (23 week micro preemie). I am a Baltimore Maryland resident and have recently posted Ryleigh's story on this site. I have looked for the past few months to find a group that specialized in NICU networking or parent support in Maryland. I have found alot of support for preemies but have not found anything for the parents. I am very appreciative of all the support Ryleigh received while in the NICU. Unfortunately, there was not alot of parent support during this time. Does anyone know of a local group in Maryland that is supporting the needs of the parents whose lives have been dramatically altered by this event?
Thanks,
Ryleigh's Dad

also in Maryland
Hi Everyone!
I would love to get a Maryland chat going - I have 2 preemies - actually they are thriving now, but Chase is 2 (2/25/04) and my daughter Cameron is 1 (4/24/05). I think it would be helpful to share resource materials and information on a State level. Both of my babies were born at Harbor Hospital in Baltimore, however we have since moved to Frederick (new market.Lake Linganore) and spend most of the summer in Ocean City. I work full time in Silver Spring. Anyway, would love to hear from you all! - Jennifer Dotson jhdotson@adelphia.net

Welcome to Share! You'll find that this entire website is giant support group. I encourage you to look around and find what interests you, then post discussions or comment in those areas......that way you can talk with out parents in your situation.
Your son seems to have gone through a lot of the things that my 26 weeker did. It is good to hear that he is finally home.

Chrissy,
So glad to hear that your son is now home. Sounds like he has given you quite a ride! There are some folders in the "Get Involved" folders for each state... here is the link for the one for Maryland. But - from the looks of it, it doesn't get visited much with the last past back in July!! You may also be interested in some of the discussions in the Parent to Parent folder about medical conditions, bringing kids home from the NICU, anything really you want to talk about! We have experience with some of the things you mentioned - mainly the CLD and ROP. My boys were born at 23 and 26 weeks and are two now - I can hardly believe it! Welcome to Share! Kara Edited: Darn if I didn't forget to say how *adorable* Maison is!!

Western Maryland Preemie Moms
My name is Amy I am a mommy to 30 weeker twin boys, healthy and happy now, but it was a tough road! reading some of these stories on here makes me feel so greatful for the outcome! It also makes me want to help, I have an idea for a fundraiser and I would like to know if there are any other preemie mommies in the frederick county washington county area who would like to help me put something substantial together! I am a volunteer firefighter in frederick county and can rent the building free of charge...I also believe through sponsers we can get a lot of items free for a basket bingo or something along those lines. I am open to suggestions!

Hi Amy! Welcome to Share! I think it is wonderful that you want to give back to your community. I do not live in Maryland but I can give you a link to the 'Getting local' folder for your area. Getting local: Maryland Hopefully you will be able to connect with others in your area. I have also started a discussion in the 'Get Involved' section called Giving Back I would love it if you would also post your ideas in here. There are so many of us 'Share parents' who are looking for ways to 'give back' and I am hoping your idea will help inspire and direct others on how to get started in their own area. Thank you again for caring enough to pass on your good will to others who now face their own difficulties with having a preemie. Congratulations on your twin boys! I can't wait to hear more about them. Karen

Re: A little late
Hi Geri, I'm here in Maryland too!! I know that we have a local support group for infant and pregnancy loss in Easton, through our hospital. But I have never been to a meeting, but know the lady that runs it. She was my nurse during the loss of my 1st daughter.
There is a MOD Chef's auction on October 30th in Cambridge if your interested in attending the fundraiser. This is my 1st time going. So I'm really looking forward to it.
Just let me know if you have any questions.
Colleen
