Hi, I'm Melissa Middleton. I'm the mom of Alex (deceased), Ben, Callie, and Donovan - all born at 25 weeks. Ben, Callie, and Donovan are now two years old. As a member of the March of Dimes Share community, I want to welcome you.

Why Share?
Share is a safe place to exchange ideas about prematurity and babies in the NICU. In this community, we celebrate, grieve, and, on some days, just vent. Here we let each other know what's going on in our lives - without the fear of being judged or handed volumes of advice. Here we support each other.

Share is an incredible resource fueled by caring, helpful individuals who have been where you are now. We go through our journeys together. We understand, at a deeper level than most people on the street, the struggles and triumphs of our babies and what we as parents face every day.

We have family and close friends to support us. So why do we need a support community? Yes, those close to us love us, but they can't always know and understand our experiences. Although we may not know the people on Share, they know what we see, do and feel every day. It is a special healing.

As Share community members, we understand:

Staying up nights on end for fear our child may stop breathing
Worrying that our baby is not gaining weight
Handling severe reflux and other health problems faced by NICU babies
Dealing with health professionals who are not experts in treating preemies or children who have spent time in the NICU

We, as parents, learn how to do a lot of things at once: helping professionals understand the needs of our preemies, coordinating providers, paying bills. Sometimes we don't know if any one thing will work out. Talking with other parents, getting feedback and encouragement make a huge difference.

Get Started!
Go ahead, get your feet wet! To start out, introduce yourself. In your profile, tell us about your kids, their names and ages. Briefly describe your experience by starting a story or blog. Begin with just a few paragraphs. Share with care! That's enough. Then people can get to know you, and it will be easier for you and other community members to talk with each other. If you take the chance of letting us get to know you, you will reap the benefits.

Welcome to Share!
