SHE DID IT!!!

Mar 25, 2009 06:55pm (EST)

Finally we are gaining!!! I have never had such a weight lifted off my shoulders. I am so excited to know that the Neosure is working. Natalie gained 6 oz. She is now a whopping 5lbs 12oz.!!! She gained an ounce a day since starting the Neosure. I wish I would of figured this out sooner, but you will have that. The doctor was so happy that we do not have to go back for 3 weeks. We went back today for her last RSV shot. Again I couldn't watch. lucky for both of us it was quick. She cried for a minute then that was it. She is a tough cookie. She gained another ounce since yesterday. They weighed her again before her shot and she weighed 5lbs 13oz. We are creeping up to the 6lb mark. She is also longer measuring in at 18inches long. I did notice she is filling out her car seat now!!

SHE LIKES IT!!

Mar 21, 2009 01:57pm (EST)

Yes, that is right she likes the formula. I was worried about how she would transition, but she is doing great. She has taken more than she ever took of breast milk. In one sitting she took 4oz. She never took that much breast milk at one time. She is also eating faster. The doc saud she may be burning too many calories when she eats for a long time. If she doesn't have any gain this tuesday I will be SHOCKED!! Now we are still working on her sleeping. I get 1 or 2 good nights in a week. She was up alot yesterday and still up all night. If anyone has any suggestions about what to do to help get her days and nights figured out let me know. This is when I wish we had an EASY button to push!! I will let you knoe how the doctor's appointment goes on Tuesday.

GAINING WEIGHT IS HARD TO DO

Mar 18, 2009 04:00pm (EST)

Another dissapointing doctor visit yesterday. She lost an ounce. I thought she had an awesome week of feedings and staying above 400cc in 24 hour period. Apparently I was wrong. I dread going to get her weight checked every week. I am trying to do everything I can to get her to gain and it is not happening. My biggest fear is that she ends up back in the hospital. So the next step we discussed was to stop pumping and start the 22cal formula. I am okay with that because I know it is best for her and it has been a month at home with strictly breast milk and she hasn't really had weight gain. She had almost 3 months and unfortunatly I HAVE to return to work exspecailly with the price of formula. I think I would have a hard time working, pumping and making sure she had enough and all that. Hopefully with the 22 cal she will have pogressive weight gain. In the hospital she gained an ounce a day with the fortifyer and in 4 weeks at home we can't get her to gain. On the bright side her last eye exam went good, they have both finally matured and we don't have to go back for a few months. Her hearing went ok she past the left, but not the right. Hearing the words"she's soo tiny" is starting to get to me. Everytime we go to the doctor (the only place we can go) other patents or nurses say it and them I have to explain she is was premature. I also hate hearing her doctor say "she not a normal 2 month old she is still a newborn" Do they have to use the words "NOT A NORMAL"? Sorry for ranting, but things have been a little rough and I just needed to get that out. On a brighter note, she is getting cuter by the day and I take everyday I have with her as a blessing!!!

PARTY AT 3AM!

Mar 11, 2009 05:54pm (EST)

Yes, that is what it has been the last week. Natalie has been sleeping all day and awake at night. We so not have a routine yet other than wide awake from 10 pm to 3am. We are still doing doctor visits once a week to check her weight gain. She is up to 5lbs 7oz as of Mondays visit. We havn't exscaped the microscope yet. So I can't even watch my daughter have her 2month shots done. I couldn't watch her eye exam either. I have seen her go through so much pain already it is so hard to watch her go through more. She has no problems with it, just mommy. Hopefully our visits to doctors will slow down soon. I can't beleive I will be heading back to work soon either. Time is flying!!

SHE IS HOME!

Mar 05, 2009 02:37pm (EST)

The day had finally come for her homecoming!!! We got her home on Tuesday Feb 24th!! She came home at 5lb 4oz. We are so excited. Our first week took some getting used to. We now sleep with the TV on because she is used to the noise. She had her days and nights mixed up for a few days.We are still working on her eating, She is a snacker like her mom. I can't believe she is 2 months old already. She just had her 2 month check up and shots, and I couldn't even watch. Its funny that her origianl due date was tomorrow. We brought her home at exactly 39 weeks. The only thing she is on is vitamans. Now we are going to the doctor once a week to check her weight gane. We are staying in our bubble (house) because I do NOT want her sick and I can control her environment at home. The only place we go is the Doctor. It has been an interesting, fun, crazy and exausting week for all of us. Thank you all again!!!!!!!!!!!

A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL

Feb 23, 2009 12:21am (EST)

We finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!! She is almost home!! We are just waiting for her to gain weight for 2 days in a row. She just started to be at lib on friday. She is doing really good and they stopped giving her the fortifier Saturday. Now we have to see if she can gain on her own. SHe is up to 5lbs 4oz!! Her face is so cute without her NG tube. It was still cute with it, but even better without. It took me bringing in my own nipples and bottle to try to get her to eat. We are hoping sometime this week she will be home!! The pic is just after her tube came out so the tape is still on her face. Thank you all again for your support and taking this NICU ride with us!!

BIG GIRL BED

Feb 11, 2009 01:48am (EST)

She has finally made it to an open crib yesterday. We are so excited. Now we just have to work on her feedings and getting that figured out. Sometimes she will eat alot and other times she hardly eats any. She has finished a bottle yesterday and today in the early morning then slows down and doesn't eat much the rest of the day so they have to NG it. It is getting alot harder for me and I miss her more and more. I just want her home and I don't want to be under the miroscope anymore. I am tired of alarms and monitors amd people asking if everything is okay. natalie has a cute pink hat that a March of Dimes Volunteer made. Thank you March of Dimes!!! Natalie is growing big and strong she is up to 4lbs 10 oz today!!! Hopefully we will get over the last hurtle of feeding and she will come home!! Thanks again for helping me through this experience of premature birth.

SHE LIKES TO EAT!

Feb 04, 2009 11:01pm (EST)

Yes, that's right she loves to eat for such a little girl. I went in today to work with the speech theropist and bottle feed. She knows when its time she start her lips smacking and yeaterday she sucked her thumb for the first time for me. She gets wide eyed and readt to eat!! She latched on right away and starts sucking. They are going to start today feeding her from bottle/breast for everyfeeding, but still NG whatever she doesn't take. Anyway back to today, she showed me the correct way to hold and all that. I am still at the stage were everything is ackword and they make it look so easy. She took 35cc from the bottle of 50cc!!! She was up to 4lbs 6oz. today and they are removing her PIC line totally. Finally I can hold her without getting her and me all wrapped in wires!! All she has left on her is the NG (feeding) tube and her leads for the monitor!!! Thanks again for your prayers and kind words!!!!

A MONTH OLD ALREADY

Feb 02, 2009 09:46pm (EST)

Can you balieve she is a month old already? We hit the 4lb mark last week!!! Yesterday she was 4lbs 3oz. She is still in her "house", but it sounds like they will try again this week to put her in an open crib. They will be taking her IV out today or tomorrow and the PIC line will be out after 48hours of the IV coming out. She is up to 50cc of milk. Mike had a special day with her on the day of my shower, he feed her a bottle for his first time and changed her diaper for the first time. When he came home he was glowing with excitment that he did it! I will say it is getting harder for me because we are getting close. Tomorrow she will would have been 36 weeks. I just miss her and want her home. I had my baby shower this weekend and my friends and family made sure I had fun. The girlds put together a book for Natalie of stories they have of me from different people of when I was little, when I was prego and when after I had her. They will keep adding them into this book and when she graduates from High school the book will be bound and given to her. What a great idea. Thanks for letting me share!!

SHE GRADUATED

Jan 28, 2009 10:28pm (EST)

Yeh Natalie has graduated to the "Big Girl" side of the NICU!!! She has moved from Immidate care to intermidate care. She is off all medication only IV fluid, but as her feeds increase the IV fluid will decrease. She is still in her "House", but they will start to try her in a big girl bed soon. They have increased to her feeds to 30ml!!! She is almost to the 4lb mark today she was 3lbs 15oz. She might have lost an ounce when she filled her diaper during her feeding, but at least I know the plumming works good!! I am so excited that she has come so far it makes me want her to come home even more because she is getting closer. I think this month will be even harder because I want her to suceed with her goals to come home. Can you beleive she will be a month old on Friday!! I look back at all the pictures and see how much she has changed from week to week. Of course I have a team this year named after her called The Nat Pack. Boy do I have a cause more than ever this year!! You all have really helped me make it through this month of sadness and joy. Thank you for celebrating Natalie's milestones with us. The biggest milestone of course is her comeing home, but I know we have a while for that. This weekend is my baby shower and it will be strange since she is already here. I am afraid I am going to cry infront of all those people. It is hard enough going into her room and she's not there and now I wil be getting things for her and she's not home to have and wear them. It is hard because she's not at home and I'm not carrying her in my belly. It is all going to work out and we've made it this far. We just have to make it a little further! I will let you know how it all went and again thank you all for being there for me, Mike and Natalie!! More pictures to come soon!
