SicknessKatie87 - 04:15am Jan 26, 2012 ESTHello Everyone- I was just telling my husband I was having withdrawal from visiting the website as I have not had time to log on this week. I have a question and I guess I'm asking for opinions and advice as to how you guys would or have handled this. I visit my parents often and stay the night a lot as I miss them like crazy for one and they help a lot with my daughter as well. My mom is a clean freak and each time we come over she wipes down and sprays down the house as precaution. Both of my parent's work in offices so they are out in public each day. My father recently well I guess it was last wednesday or thursday came down with a head cold that then turned into a sinus infection. He went to the doctor this past monday and is on antibiotics and feeling much better. Mom(knock on wood) is not sick and I believe slept in another room as precaution for a couple of days. We are visiting the pediatrician tomorrow for a weight check so I plan on asking him as well but how long should I keep away from them? I don't want to put Emma Kate in any danger at all but at the same time I really would like to spend the night friday and spend the day with them saturday as my husband will be working. My mom said they would air out the place and of course spray and wipe down everything and even wear masks whenever it was safe to visit again. This is something I told my mom would be inevitable as we always seem to get a cold virus and at least with my dad and I it turns into a sinus infection. We take every proper precaution but we are all human and cannot live in bubbles. Mom and I have been skyping as she has a hard time not seeing Emma Kate. None of us want to put her in any kind of danger. Oh and she has had two synagis shots so far if that makes a difference. Anyway; what do you guys think?

I would ask the pediatrician. Anytime you are already people it is unpredictable b/c they may just be carrrying a cold/virus and not know it or coming down or recovering. As much as we try to protect them, it is very difficult.
I think you have to go with the doctor and/or what you think is right on this one.

I'd ask the pediatrician.
Altho, as long as Tori had her synagis shots...on time...She never got sick. The one single time she didn't get it on time(about 2 weeks late), due to insurance/Dr office miscommunication she got RSV and was in Children's Hosp for 5 days.
I'm a firm believer in Synagis.
Love and Light,
Liz

I agree with Liz and Ellen, ask the pediatrician.
It sounds like it is tough for you all to be apart, though, so I'm sorry! Hopefully a sinus infection is all that is going on, and therefore it isn't contagious, right? Make sure with the dr.
Good luck!

I agree with the othes
If you ask at least you won't have to feel so nervous and "not know". the worst he can tell you is not to go to your parent's house. I love, love, love how your mom and dad seem to be taking the precautions so seriously, btw! I feel like my own family is not that way. They treat me like i am too hyper and try to down play what the doctors say. My baby has been released from the whole "qaurantine" thingy, but he is still fragile and recently got bronchitis and was really sick. Due to a family member with a bad cold not washing before touching him Be careful as I know you are. You should be fine.

Hey Everyone- The pediatrician is not concerned about the sinus infection he just said as long as the cold is gone. I know my father would not hold her and I would make my mom wear a mask. My dad says he has a bit of a cough like dripping in his throat from everything. He feels fine and is back at work. I agree that coming into contact with anyone is a bit of a risk because you don't always know who is carrying what. I mean for the most part I stay in but my husband works and definitely with the public (grocery store)... I'm going to talk to my mom tonight and see what she thinks. I appreciate everyone's advice as always. It is in the sixties here today so we took a stroll and it was nice; now I'm exhausted; thankfully my husband gets night duty tonight Yay!

Just so you know, the synagis shots are effective for 30 days, so as long as her last one was within the month she is protected from RSV. Then I would go with whatever the Dr says. Good luck.
