My Angel Melanie

Baily555 - 11:00am Jul 2, 2009 EST

Hello, my name is Baily and on May 5th 2005 I gave birth to my gorgeous daughter Melanie Catherine. She was born at 24 and a half weeks weighing 15.6 oz and 10 1/2 inches long. Melanie only lived for a few hours and spent her entire life in my arms as I watched her take her last breath.
The doctors told me they could hook her up to all the machines and needles but it would just put her in a ton of pain and most likely would be unsucessful. This is why I chose to hold my daughter and make her feel as comfortable as possible during her short life. It was the most exciting but absolute worst day of my life all at the same time. Its hard to explain but there were so many emotions going through my head in that short amount of time. I wouldnt talk to anyone for 2 months after she was born, didnt watch TV for 6 months and didnt go back to work for almost a year because I work for a pediatrician. It seemed like everything in the world was directed towards babies at the time.
Soon after that I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks. I decided to wait until Melanie's first birthday to get pregnant again and I did. This time with my amazing son Devin. I was diagnosed with an incompenent cervix with my daughter so with my son I had a cervical cerclage put in at 13 weeks. It was the scariest and most stressful 8 months of my life. At 36 weeks they removed the stitch and a week and a half later, my son was born. He was blue and wasnt breathing and thats when I thought to myself "here we go again" He was fine after they gave him oxygen thank goodness. He was an adorable baby boy weighing 61bs 1oz and he was 19 3/4 in long. He is now 2 and a half and healthy as can be. He did need to have hernia surgery when he was 7 months old due to being pre-mature, the muscles didnt finish growing together. Other then that hes had no complications and is happy and I love him so very much.

Welcome to Share! I'm so sorry to hear of Melanie's passing as well as your miscarriage. I can't imagine the emotions of another loss on top of the first.

I do want to say Congratulations on a healthy little boy though! Sounds like he's quite a fighter and a joy to have around the house!! I'd love to hear more about your family. We're always here if you need someone to talk to who knows and understands.

Tracy
